HEALDSBURG'S ADAMS LEADS SONOMA ALL-STARS TO VICTORYSENIOR GIRLS NEVER TRAILED

Healdsburg's Chrissy Adams scored 23 points, including 13 in the first half, to lead the Sonoma County All-Stars to a 57-36 win over the Humboldt/Del Norte All-Stars in the 14th Annual Sonoma County High School Senior All-Star girls basketball game at Haehl Pavilion on Monday.|

Healdsburg's Chrissy Adams scored 23 points, including 13 in the first

half, to lead the Sonoma County All-Stars to a 57-36 win over the Humboldt/Del

Norte All-Stars in the 14th Annual Sonoma County High School Senior All-Star

girls basketball game at Haehl Pavilion on Monday.

In the All-Star boy's game, Hoopa Valley's Milton Schneider scored nine

points and had 11 rebounds to lead Humboldt/ Del Norte to a, 74-68, win. Del

Norte's Branden Bieber had 10 points and 20 rebunds for Humbodlt/Del Norte.

The girls contest saw Adams, who may have been playing in her last

basketball game, pull down eight rebounds and gather in three steals en route

to being named the game's MVP.

''It was really a lot of fun out there,'' said Adams. ''We all got along

together and I just wanted to play well in what might have been my last

game.'' Adams will be a physical therapy major at Fresno State in the fall and

is undecided if she will try out for the Bulldog team.

Santa Rosa's Melissa Mordecai scored 11 points, and Montgomery's Kelly

Byrne chipped-in with seven for Sonoma County.

McKinleyville's Riann Bright led Humboldt/Del Norte with 11 points.

Eureka's Sarah Harbour, Arcata's Jessica Parker and Ferndale's Julie Peterson

each scored six points for Humboldt.

The Sonoma County All-Stars took a 4-0 lead as Sonoma's Melanie Arner

scored the first two baskets of the game and never trailed. Sonoma County

applied a full court press early and Humboldt/Del Norte appeared to look

uneasy against it.

Sonoma County started to pound the ball inside more in the second quarter

and Humboldt/ Del Norte missed several lay-ups on fast break opportunities

that could have kept the game close.

''I thought our power in the post is what turned the game around for us,''

said Sonoma County and Santa Rosa Junior College coach Caren Franci.

Sonoma County banged its way to a 28-18 halftime lead.

The Humboldt/Del Norte AllStars came out in the second looking like a new

team. They pressed, forced turnovers, and banged inside with Sonoma County.

Bright scored six points, including four in the post. Humboldt cut the deficit

to five, 37-32, before White hit a put back with 50 seconds remaining in the

third to put Sonoma County up, 39-32.

But Humboldt's second half strategy may have been their undoing. Playing

with only seven players, the Humboldt team started to look tired and the

Sonoma County team continued to pound the ball inside, as it outscored

Humboldt/Del Norte, 18-4, in the fourth. Adams scored 9 of Sonoma County's 18

fourth quarter points.
