Winery ‘battle’ collects a ton for Toys for Tots
More than one ton of toys and coats were collected during the last three weeks in a battle between the Alexander Valley and Russian River Valley wine regions to see who could collect the most donations for Toys for Tots.
Last Friday, Dec. 14, the group held a live weigh-in event at the Jordan Winery to determine the winner to see who had collected the most
in its five-ton vintage grape gondola, painted like Santa’s sleigh. Russian River Valley won the challenge by just 20 pounds with 1,040 of donations to Alexander Valley’s 1,020 pounds for a grand total of 2,060 pounds.
They were met by U.S. Marine Corp Reservists and management teams from participating wineries. The gifts will be distributed to needy children throughout Sonoma County this week.
In addition to Jordan and J, participating wineries included Francis Ford Coppola Winery, Ferrari-Carano, Soda Rock Winery, deLorimier Winery, Silver Oak Cellars, Stryker Sonoma, Robert Young Estate Winery, Trione Winery, Lancaster Estate, Chalk Hill Estate Vineyards & Winery, Dutton Goldfield, Rodney Strong Vineyards, Hartford Court, Moshin Vineyards, Limerick Lane Cellars, Twomey Cellars, Foppiano Vineyards, DeLoach Vineyards and Papapietro Perry.
