Roof collapse closes two Healdsburg stores

The O'Reilly Auto Parts and Goodwill stores in Healdsburg remained closed Tuesday after a portion of the roof collapsed the previous night during a driving rainstorm.

A 24-inch wooden beam broke in the roof section above the auto parts store shortly before 8 p.m. Monday, Healdsburg Fire Chief Steve Adams said.

"It snapped right in half," Adams said.

The weight of rainwater on the roof may have contributed to the partial collapse, he said. Water on the roof did pour into the automotive store at 515 Healdsburg Ave.

As a precaution, the fire chief closed the auto store and the attached Goodwill outlet. A structural engineer is expected today to oversee efforts to shore up the roof so that workers can safely remove goods from the O'Reilly store.
