Happy hour at summer concerts gets bit longer

Concertgoers at Healdsburg’s popular Tuesdays in the Plaza summer music series will have an extra hour to enjoy an alcoholic
beverage this year.
The City Council last week extended the permitted time for alcohol consumption by an hour to coincide with when food is sold.
No alcohol is sold at the event, but concertgoers who sit in the plaza typically bring their own drinks.
For the past eight years, the permitted time to consume alcohol has been from 6 to 8 p.m., when the music plays.
There are also a half-dozen or so vendors who provide food from 5 to 8 p.m.
Based on community feedback, the Parks and Recreation Commission recommended alcohol be allowed beginning at 5 p.m. The council without comment approved the motion.
Due to the extended hours, a police officer will have to be in attendance an hour earlier. That will add a $1,694 cost for the entire 14-week series, according to city staff.
Concert sponsorships are expected to cover the extra cost.
The Tuesday concert series begins May 29 and runs through Aug. 28.
